Resisting Detritus

I try not to take it for granted. I read something recently that said the best writers understand that publishing is a privilege. That being read is a privilege. By that acknowledgment, the writer must accept their role in a world that does not treat publishing as privilege, but instead as excretory process, pushing the waste of society into the open flame of the internet. By that acknowledgment, the responsibility of the writer is to not litter. It is to create things authentically, with intention. To not be hamstrung by publishing as a finish line, but to treat it as an altar, a sacred ground willing to accept you even if you are not worthy.
